Why heading tags matter
Heading tags matter because they create a clear structure for your content, telling people and search engines exactly what a page is about and how the information is organised.
For users, headings act like signposts. They make a page easy to scan, help visitors quickly find the information they’re looking for, and improve readability—especially on mobile. A clear H1 tells users they’re in the right place, while H2s and H3s break the content into logical sections that are easy to follow.
For search engines, heading tags provide context and hierarchy.
Section 1
create your heading tags
It is critical that there is only one H1 tag per page. You can use as many of the other tags as you wish on the page.
I would recommend laying a page content out like this:
H1 > Main Heading
Make sure your H1 contains the main keyword you are trying to target.
H2 > Sub Headings
Use these to break the page into logical sections and cover related topics or supporting keywords.
H3 >Sub Headings
Sub-headings used under H2s to expand on specific points, steps, or details within each section.
